This renowned event was organised by EFOS in cooperation with the Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek and Pforzheim University in Germany, with Osijek once more becoming a regional centre for bringing together the business and academic communities for the two-way exchange of knowledge and experience.

At this year’s 19th edition of the interdisciplinary IMR conference, the latest research, new theoretical approaches and practical insights were presented, and a particularly engaging guest lecture was delivered by Igor Berecki, MD, on the highly topical subject of artificial intelligence. His lecture, entitled “How to put your brain in a computer… and why?”, explored whether artificial intelligence can replace humans in managing organisations.

Artificial intelligence is enabling machines and computers to use neurological mechanisms and modes of thinking and data processing in the way we believe the human brain works. In this process, we still have to learn how the human brain functions in order to perfect artificial intelligence. Why do we make the decisions we do, and how can we embed this in artificial intelligence so that it benefits the economy and many other industries? Artificial intelligence may not be more creative or intelligent than humans, but it is probably faster and has access to a larger database than any individual. That is precisely why artificial intelligence will be a powerful supporting tool for enhancing human capabilities, not a replacement for humans,” emphasised Igor Berecki, MD, Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, KBC Osijek, during his lecture at EFOS.

Numerous other lectures were held during the conference, which also covered highly relevant contemporary topics for both the local environment and the global context. The topics discussed included wine tourism, the impact of COVID-19 on online study, the market value of chicken meat according to processing and marketing methods, the business communication styles of Generation Z, inflation trends in Croatia, the relationship between intellectual capital and financial performance, internal marketing communication and the satisfaction of members of political parties, and more.

“With the IMR conference, we opened the new academic year in the best possible way, which also reflects our overall approach to education. High-quality cooperation between the academic and business communities is key to socio-economic progress at local and national levels, and by systematically strengthening channels for constructive dialogue between these two groups, we are further confirming the position of the Faculty of Economics in Osijek as a regional leader in this field. On behalf of the entire Faculty and our community, and on behalf of our partners in this project, I would like to sincerely thank all participants who contributed to our common goal of setting a solid and clear roadmap for the modernisation of education in the years to come, starting this October with the new academic year,” said Prof. Boris Crnković, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business in Osijek.

At this year’s 19th edition of the interdisciplinary IMR conference, the latest research, new theoretical approaches and practical insights were presented, and a particularly interesting guest lecture on the highly topical subject of artificial intelligence was given by Igor Berecki, MD.
